「Drama Review」Bride of the Century

Tuesday, May 6, 2014 @ 5:54 PM

So, I finally finished Bride of the Century! Yay! I have to say that I really like it! It didn't (completely) follow the traditional outline for Korean dramas that I'm starting to get bored of.

The Plot

It was interesting for sure! I'm glad it wasn't like every other Korean Drama I've watched! The curse, the twin sisters and the ghost all gave interesting twist to the story. However, I would have like the drama to be a little more uplifting (I'm watching Deja Vu and OMG) especially towards the end. I felt incredibly depressed!

The Actors

Na Doo-rim / Jang Yi-kyung- First of all I loved the female lead! That was a big surprise for me...I tend to find most female leads of dramas wimpy and annoying. The character Doo rim was refreshing and reminded me faintly of Makino from the Japanese Boys of Flowers. She was cute, likeable and quirky. However her  twin sister did give off a stereotypical evil nemesis vibe which was a little expected....and I hated how she treated her brother! Although It took me a while I finally remembered where this actress was from....It was City Hunter!! I hope she gets more lead roles. Her acting was refreshing and I've watched a little too many dramas with Park Shin Hye in them (Not that I don't like her but...)

Choi Kang-joo - Lee Hongki- what are you doing?!? This role gave me such a shock especially since I've watched You're Beautiful. Watching Hong-ki as a serious and business-savvy young man felt incredibly unnatural. That was probably because I'm still in love with Jeremy though...*Sighs* Personal bias aside, I still love Hong-ki as an actor and I hope he gets more roles!!

Lee Roo-mi and Jang Yi-hyun - Ahhh...the sad sad life of the third wheels. I honestly hate third wheels, they serious depress me. Every drama has them, from the Beautiful You, Boys Flowers and Mischievous Kiss's third wheels and they all made me want to cry. I applaud this drama for not wanting to make me cry because of the third wheel though. Although, Yi-hyun relationship was slightly heartbreaking (and he was treated so poorly!!), Roo-mi's was not at all for me (Sorry..)

Other Characters - Kang Pil-seon and Oh Jin Joo were so ridiculously cute! I recognized Jin Joo immediately as the actor from Sunny! Those cheekbones are killer! I also loved Kang Joo's dad...for some reason I don't feel like I see many dad as nice as that in dramas.

My Rating: 8.5 out of 10
This drama was interesting to watch and didn't leave me bored. The female character was also a strong lead character (that didn't annoy me most of the time). For me this drama beat Heirs by a long shot!
